The Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote

How it all Began
In 1837, a 16-year-old Louis Vuitton arrived in Paris by foot and started apprenticing for Monsieur Maréchal. At that time, travellers’ baggage was handled roughly due to horse-drawn carriages, boats, and trains being the main forms of transportation, so it was up to craftsmen to pack and protect objects during their travels. Louis Vuitton stayed in Paris for 17 years before opening his own workshop at 4 Rue Neuve-des-Capucines near the Place Vendôme.

History of the Neverfull
Introduced in 2007, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote was conceived as the ultimate everyday companion and rapidly emerged as a fashion masterpiece of practical elegance.

The story between Louis Vuitton and Goyard
The story goes that the Neverfull was created to compete with the Goyard ‘Saint Louis’ tote. Regardless of their similar appearance, the tote shape isn’t a new design in terms of designer bags.

The design of the Neverfull
The Neverfull is made with the same exquisite craftsmanship as other iconic Louis Vuitton purses, making it as sturdy as can be. It takes up to 45 hours to create a Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag and the canvas on the main body is made of waterproof, scuff proof, and tear proof material, making it exceptionally durable.

Neverfull Materials
When the Neverfull was first introduced, it was made available only in Louis Vuitton’s classic brown monogram canvas. After its booming success, it was quickly made available in Damier Ebene, followed by Damier Azur, and later, epi leather.

Interior Options and Reversibility
A beloved function that is often forgotten is that the Neverfull is reversible. Due to its unique seam construction and finishing, the tote can be flipped inside out for a new look, so one essentially gets two bags in one. The Neverfull’s interior pays homage to its noble lineage with a striped lining that recalls the canvas of the trunks of the past

The sizes of the Neverfull
It is made in three different varieties of three different sizes, making it suitable for every occasion.

  • PM, which stands for “Petit Modele” meaning Small Model in French. Measurements of the PM: 29 x 21 x 12 CM. The PM is perfect for everyday use, a stroll in the city or a fancy dinner.
  • MM, which stands for “Moyen Modele” meaning Medium model in French. Measurements of the MM: 37 x 29 x 17 CM. If you primarily use your bag for work or school, the MM would be the perfect fit – not too big, and not too small. Quite importantly, it fits a laptop and it would still leave space for books, your wallet and more.
  • GM, Which stands for “ Grand Modele” meaning Large Model in French. Measurements of the GM: 40 x 33 x 20 CM. Traveling a lot? The GM would definitely be your go-to it bag / hand luggage, as it basically fits everything. This bag is not only suitable for travelling, but also accommodates mommies as the GM can be used as a diaper bag.
